Detailed Answers:
1. Does Comcast have a customer retention department?
Some users claim that Comcast does have a customer retention department, which can be contacted to discuss promotional offers and potentially negotiate better rates. However, others have reported being informed by Comcast representatives that no promotions are available for existing customers.
2. Are there any promotions for existing Comcast customers?
According to some users, Comcast offers promotions for existing customers through their online account management system. However, it is worth noting that these promotions may vary and some users have reported being offered different promotions based on their location.
3. Is canceling and restarting service under a different name the best way to get better rates?
Some users suggest canceling the service under one person’s name and starting it under another person’s name, such as a spouse, to take advantage of new customer promotions and obtain better rates. This strategy seems to be effective for obtaining promotional rates, but it may involve the hassle of canceling and reactivating the service.
4. Why do some users experience different promotions when accessing Comcast’s website from different addresses?
It appears that Comcast’s website may offer different promotions based on the user’s location. Some users have reported seeing different promotions when accessing the Comcast website from their own account compared to accessing it through a neighbor’s address. The reason for this discrepancy is unclear and could be specific to Comcast’s targeting of promotions.
5. Are there any alternatives to Comcast with better deals?
While Comcast may be the dominant provider in some areas, users suggest exploring alternative options such as Frontier Fiber. Some users have reported receiving promotional mailings from Comcast, possibly in response to the competition posed by Frontier’s fiber service. Switching to another provider may offer different deals and better prices, depending on the availability in the user’s area.
6. Does Comcast offer any loyalty programs for long-term customers?
There is no mention of Comcast offering loyalty programs for long-term customers in the discussed posts. However, some users have mentioned having cell phones with Xfinity Mobile, which could potentially provide loyalty benefits or discounts.
7. How can I negotiate a better deal with Comcast as an existing customer?
Users have suggested contacting Comcast’s customer retention department to inquire about promotional offers. It may also be helpful to mention any competitor offers or express dissatisfaction with the current pricing. However, the success of negotiation may vary, and some users have reported being told that no promotions are available for existing customers.
8. What are the advantages of Xfinity Mobile compared to other mobile service providers?
The advantages of Xfinity Mobile compared to other mobile service providers are not discussed in the provided text. It is recommended to research and compare Xfinity Mobile with other mobile service providers to determine the advantages and disadvantages based on individual needs and preferences.
9. Is it worth downgrading TV bundles or internet speed to lower the monthly bill?
Based on the experiences shared by users, downgrading TV bundles or internet speed may be a way to lower the monthly bill with Comcast. However, it is important to consider the impact on the quality of service and personal preferences before making any changes.
10. What are some strategies to deal with Comcast’s customer unfriendly approach?
Some users express frustration with Comcast’s customer unfriendly approach. Strategies suggested by users include canceling and restarting service under a different name to take advantage of new customer promotions, exploring alternative providers, and expressing dissatisfaction to Comcast’s customer retention department. Each individual’s circumstances may vary, and it may require trial and error to find the most effective strategy.
11. Will the availability of competition change Comcast’s approach to promotions?
Some users speculate that Comcast’s approach to promotions may change if there is increased competition in the market. The introduction of Frontier’s fiber service in certain areas seems to have prompted Comcast to send promotional mailings to retain customers. However, the long-term impact on Comcast’s promotional practices remains to be seen.
12. Can Frontier Fiber be a good alternative to Comcast?
Users have mentioned Frontier Fiber as a potential alternative to Comcast. It is suggested that Frontier Fiber may provide different promotional offers and potentially better deals compared to Comcast. However, individual experiences with Frontier Fiber may vary depending on the availability of the service in specific areas.
13. Have any users successfully switched from Comcast to Frontier?
The provided text does not mention specific experiences of users switching from Comcast to Frontier. It may be helpful to seek reviews, feedback, or personal recommendations from others who have made the switch to Frontier to gain insights into their experiences.
14. Are there any hidden fees or additional charges when canceling and restarting Comcast service?
There is no information regarding hidden fees or additional charges associated with canceling and restarting Comcast service. Users may want to review their specific service agreement or contact Comcast directly to inquire about any fees or charges that may apply in their situation.
15. What can be done if there are no good alternatives to Comcast in a specific area?
If there are limited or no alternatives to Comcast in a specific area, users may have limited options for obtaining better deals or promotions. In such cases, it is suggested to explore negotiation options with Comcast’s customer retention department or consider downgrading service bundles to reduce costs. Additionally, keeping an eye on future developments and the potential entry of new providers in the area may offer more choices in the future.

Any Comcast promotions for existing customers?
Post by mbres60 » Fri Jul 29, 2022 1:56 pm
Our recent promotion just expired. I logged onto Comcast and went to my account. I saw a link to click that says change my service. It offers two 12 month promotions which is more than I want (don’t need Netflix or Epix). I called Comcast and asked for the retention department. The rep said there are no promotions for existing customers. What. I told him what I saw online and he said it was for new customers only. Makes no sense as it is being offered to me. After I hung up I clicked on more info for that promotion and it does mention for new customers. Not sure why then it is being offered to me. I then cleared my cookies and went to Comcast.com and put in a neighbor’s address that I know doesn’t have Comcast. It offered several different promotions.. none of which was what I saw under change my service in my account. Anyone know what is going on?
What has been your experience.

Do you have a spouse? You will *always* get the best rate with comcast by cancelling each time your promotion ends and starting service under the other person’s name.

Interesting idea. Yes, I do have a spouse. HOWEVER we also have cell phones with Xfinity Mobile. Spouse also uses his email a lot and has lots of saved emails, etc. Feel like we’re stuck in their hole.

Our contract expires mid August. I went to a local Xfinity store (I refuse to call them on the phone), and was told to keep the same TV package (ultimate), and the same internet speed (very fast), there would be a monthly price increase of approximately $60.
I was shocked to hear this; no deals offered. For me, the only solution to lowering the monthly bill (by $4), was to downgrade the TV bundle, and or Internet speed. I opted to downgrade to the Choice TV package.
Truly, a customer unfriendly company; I wish only bad things for Comcast/Xfinity.

Their tune will change if there’s ever any competition.
I am a long-suffering customer of Comcast (a.k.a. the “Evil Empire”) for internet-only service. Recently, Frontier started running fiber throughout my area, and a couple of weeks ago, on my street. I now get mailings from the Evil Empire at least three times a week thanking me for being such a loyal customer and asking me to call them to see what promotional specials they can offer me, presumably to lock me in for a period of time to prevent me from switching to Frontier. I don’t plan to call the Evil Empire. I do plan to switch to Frontier very soon.

Did you do this on the same day or wait a day? If we did this we would lose tv, home phone, and cell. Don’t want to lose those phone numbers!

That seems tricky. Triple play, triple handcuffed. Cell should continue but it may be temporary be at regular price.

We have thought about doing this but haven’t yet. Our promotion expired two weeks ago. I just looked at our bill that we received the other day and see our bill went up $24. The out the door price went up $27. Not as bad as I thought. However, no promotion means price can jump any time!

You can do better on cell pricing than xfinity. When you bundle, *they* win, because as you’ve noticed you’re handcuffed. I waited one day, but no real need to.

Vendors often have deal only to new customers. The only way to get a deal is often to threaten to leave. If you have competitors in the region, they might give you an offer. At least you can make good on the threat and leave and get the competitors deal so you can come back to Comcast later with another deal.
I remember asking Comcast if you can get the Disney channel and they told me that this was not possible unless I get the $200 a month package . Unfortunately I do not love me kids enough to spend $200 dollar for Disney. I did however switch to another provider that had Disney and Comcast mysteriously tell me that it is somehow now available. Of course I switch any way and now since Disney plus is available, I could careless.

When you cancelled spouse 1’s account, did Comcast require you to return all rented equipment (boxes, remotes, router) to a “local” Comcast office and to then have a tech come out to “install” new service and hardware for spouse 2’s new service?

Comcast stock just took a hit because for the first time they failed to grow their subscriber base.
I suppose some level of possibility of retention offers in the future once this filters through their bureaucracy.
That being said, their business model seems predicated on extracting as much money as possible from those stuck with them.

I can’t do better on cell pricing. We are paying $12/month + taxes (totals just over $16) for two phones. spouse rarely uses his phone so most of the 1 gb of data being used is by me. I don’t want to lose my home phone # because I have had it since 1987.

We’ve found two ways that work for us to keep qualifying for Comcast/Xfinity promotions. One method is to cut completely back to basic cable/internet service when your promotion ends. Wait a week or until your next billing cycle and check the promotions available to you for upgrading, possibly to what you had before. Another method is to add some service you don’t use that offers a lower promotional price, for example one year there was a much lower 2 year promotional price if you added phone service. We ended up holding onto the different modem/router the phone service required for that two year promotion period but never used it, we just kept our “customer equipment” cable modem in place. We didn’t want to risk moving our phone number around.
These days with all the streaming services we don’t even mind cutting back to the basic package for a couple of weeks. We have a household member who is a big fan of a couple of the public affair channels that are available on cable (or satellite) and not elsewhere so we’re not going to cut the cord.
The closest helping hand is at the end of your own arm.

So you’re saving about $4/mo compared with two lines on US Mobile’s pooled plan sharing 1GB (runs on Verizon). Meanwhile your hands are tied on high-priced home internet. Do you see now why they offer such a good deal on Xfinity Mobile? (As for the phone number – I’ve done porting many times, it works just fine.)

Yes, we returned the “rented” Comcast modem to the local office. We didn’t need a tech to come back to the house since we just activated another modem we have using the Xfinity app.

Firstly I still think you can do better, but if you refuse to try then just pay a little bit more for the cell phones (up to $10) to save $20+ (a lot more) on the comcast. *shrug*. You asked for ways, these are ways, you just don’t want to do them.

Port your phone number to Ooma or Google Voice or other VOIP provider.
Port your cell phones to a low cost MVNO.
Shop your internet service to lowest cost provider in your area.
Don’t let them keep you locked up. Flexibility is key to saving money these days.
Full disclosure – I have Comcast Xfinity for internet and TV. Switched a while back because they were cheaper than Century Link/DirecTV streaming.
But I fully expect to have to renegotiate or switch at the end of my 12 month promo.
Never did the cell phone because as my son-in-law just discovered, your rate goes up 67% if you move and no longer have access to Comcast internet.

Between the phone purchase deals and what I am paying for my specific needs, I do not believe that I could do better. This is obviously personal based on number of phones, types of phones and data usage. I think in 3 out of 4 years the gift cards for purchasing new iphones or transferring a line have added up to more than all the plan fees for the year.
To the OP, in my experience, Comcast will give you new promotions if you add services. So if you cancelled TV, for instance, they would start giving you promotional offers. You could even do this for a time when you would be out of town. However, it would be an unknown and if you have a lot of Xfinity equipment, it could be more hassle than it was worth.
Personally, I gave up triple play about a decade ago. My previous landline home number is on an old phone with Xfinity Mobile and costing me less than $1 a month. I use no Xfinity DVR/cable TV boxes. Instead we use a Roku with the Xfinity app or stream via a phone or computer. This time of year, we cancel the TV portion of our services. We have nothing to disconnect or return. We have had more content to choose from than we expected this summer as many streaming services have had 99 cent a month offers through Roku or Amazon. At some point, there is usually live TV we want to see that is not easily available for free or from a service we want anyway. In the past, the cost to add back in the TV package has been minimal because we are considered a new TV customer. Who knows, maybe next time this does not get us any decent offers. My only issue is that fast forwarding on the Roku does not have thumbnails and there is limited DVR space. Minor for us but could be a real killer for others.

My 12 month contract is up mid Aug. I have Connect Internet (50 Mbps) for $30 and Xfinity Mobile. Today they actually called me, and said they won’t be offering new customer deals to existing customers, but they still offered me Connect Internet for $35 or Connect More (100 Mbps) for $40. So I signed up for another 12 month contract for $35. I think it depends on your area, because in my neighborhood, at&t fiber is also available.

My contract is up Aug 9. I call-in this morning and was offered the same TV and internet package I currently have for $5 less than present billing (1 year contract). Asked about 2-year agreement but was told none was available. Atlanta area, we have AT&T fiber in neighborhood, and they have been pushing hard on folks to switch.
Was expecting $10-$30 raise. Go Figure!!

Yeah, competition is good. My RCN/Astound deal recently expired. They wouldn’t extend it. I switched to a 2 year guaranteed rate (but no commitment on my part) $39/mo deal from XFinity/Comcast for internet-only service. I rotate between the two as needed, and can throw in FiOS too. I love having multiple providers at my location.

Every year, I have to go through this hassle with Mediacom. The main method I’ve found to get a discount is calling multiple times.
I call the retention number. When I get a customer service rep, I tell them my bill went up recently, and ask if they can do anything to lower it? I don’t come in hostile, I don’t threaten that I’m quitting. I just ask.
Every year, I end up calling 3 or 4 times before getting an ok deal. I usually get a CSR who claims we’re paying the lowest price they offer. A couple CSR offer me weak discounts. If they don’t have an offer I like, I thank them for their time, hang up, and call back. Eventually, I get a decent deal, and I accept it, and move on with life.
It sounds like you’re pretty tied to this company. I suggest calling the retention line a few times and see if you can land a better deal.

Totally agree with this recommendation. Start removing your services from the Comcost “Bundle”. Keeping your other services with low cost suppliers, you will have more flexibility/power to negotiate deals with Comcost. That’s what I did with WOW. For

One approach I have used is to call and say you’re cancelling. If they don’t offer a good deal, make the cancellation effective in a few weeks. Then you can call back and cancel the cancellation. By calling and saying you are thinking of cancelling won’t get you far. You have no leverage with the threat.
We’ve done the spouse thing for years. We pay $20/mo. It helps to have two modems.
I’d shop around for cell plans. I pay $250 for a year on the T-Mobile network and get 10 GB of data.
We can get Verizon 5G internet for $25 because my spouse has Verizon for cell service. The cell service is expensive, but they gave a free $900 phone. So we do have a good alternative to Comcast. AT&T is in our area, but their plans are not competitive. We can get T-Mobile 5g internet too.
Xfinity Mobile isn’t a good deal unless you use very little data.
I would never use a Comcast email and be tied to that.

This thread is a little old, but I thought I’d relay what I did since my Comcast was expiring next week. Spouse is on Verizon wireless so we signed up for their 5g home internet. $25/mo and it has a 10 year price guarantee. No data caps. No minimum (except 1st month). Obviously, you need to have a Verizon wireless plan and be close to a 5G tower but it is a great deal and not having to deal with the annual price increases is very nice. I am getting speeds 3x what I was getting with Comcast (but I was on the cheapest Comcast plan).

Did they say explicitly no data cap or “in practice?” I was interested in Tmobile 5g home internet but they had a ridiculously low data cap but in practice there was none. (To be honest, I do not remember whether it was a data cap or slow down type date cap.)

They say no data cap: “No equipment charges or data caps.” I never got to 1/2 of the 1.2TB data cap with Comcast so I’m not worried. Like anything, I’m sure if enough people abuse it, they will take appropriate action and put in data caps or start throttling.

Working at COMCAST: Company Overview and Reviews
Retention Specialist Reviews at COMCAST in Sterling Heights, MI
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | Jan 22, 2018
welcome to anxiety and panic attacks
A typical day at work is being threatened to lose your job because a stat is .02 off from what is expected. Supervisors don’t care about you. 80% of supervisors have no experience in this field. When they do promote within its someone who has been dishonest on the phones and got caught for it but some how still works there and got promoted later down the line. Your treated like a robot. If you sign off the phone for 5 minutes to use the restroom your supervisor asks you every time why you signed off the phone. If he call volume is that bad you need to hire more employees not try to make people feel bad for having to use the restroom.
Pros alot of great benefits
Cons everything else about the job
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | Apr 12, 2014
Fun work place and atmosphere
Comcast definitely has a fun environment with a great benefits package. However, there is no room for advancement. Advancement is not given on performance ratings but moreover on who employees are connected with within the department. The hardest part of the job is knowing that you will probably be in the same position for years to come with little to know advancement opportunities. The most enjoyable part is talking with each and every customer from a variety of backgrounds in an attempt to solve their issues.
Pros Great Benefits
Cons No advancement oppurtunities
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | Oct 8, 2019
Management
Comcast provides excellent benefits however, the stress comes from the companies failure to not have a accountability department. Too many mistakes made and customers call in and curse us out due to broken promises. They need to revamp the way they train employees and also management. Also they need to change the way they do paid time off because work and life balance is impossible if you have small children company
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | Oct 2, 2021
pay does not fit job
tied to phone. ppl have no education or respect for it. basically ppl with blue collar but at desk. would not recommend company. when you put in 2 week notice they let you go that day. happy I had a second job, which you must have bc the pay isn’t enough. there are also poor people clicks.
Pros great medical benefits
Cons short breaks tied to phones reminds you of mcdonalds
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | Nov 29, 2018
Great Place to work with Great Benefits
Typical day in the Retention department is stressful. Management constantly makes changes to the bonus structure and there are several quality performance measures that must be met that are very ambiguous. Comcast has pretty good medical benefits, but their pay is not very competitive. Pay is very low.
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | Mar 30, 2017
Fun place to work but not the best managment style
Great company. Excellent benefit package for employees, lots of contests and events for employees. Management not very professional and not skillful in how to handle employees.
Pros Big company FREE CABLE
Cons Can be fired if you work in retention for not offering a package to retain customer
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | Oct 25, 2017
Comcast is a great place to work especially in a customer service environment.
Comcast is cool work environment and it specializes in a supportive management style given the stressful atmosphere of customer service. I would recommend Comcast to friends as a great job
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | May 7, 2015
Fast paced work environment with high call volume
typical day at work entails reading emails which provide any updates on customer services also taking calls from customers and providing excellent service to retain their business.
Pros free cable and internet
Cons high job turnover rate
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | Sep 17, 2014
clean and fun place to work most times
A typical day at Comcast is kind of hectic. Very busy but all your hard work pays off. Ive learned how to effectively communication with others, and time management.
Pros nice pay out, free lunch at times
Cons heavy call volume, irate customers
Retention Specialist | Sterling Heights, MI | Dec 5, 2015
Sneaky place to work.
Comcast is a great place to work. The pay is decent, the commision is attainable, however if you succeed well you become a target from upper management. If you go on medical you can expect to be terminated once you return.
Pros hourly rate and commision
Cons management

I’ve been at Comcast for 23 years. I stay because senior leadership acts with integrity. They do expect an honest day’s work and OT is common in the field and field leadership. There are good days and bad in the telecom industry, but I have truly enjoyed the work and the majority of my coworkers. Comcast trains their people well, and offers education assistance for those wanting to earn a degree. Free internet is a huge plus.
Answered Oct 4, 2022
Depends on your level in the organization. Each year employee surveys are used to rate direct leadership and upper management. If a team rates low the direct leader is crucified and upper management who is really to blame is not. Direct leaders basically coach their employees to rate these surveys high and be dishonest to avoid this regardless of any real issues. They should stop pretending to care about the employees when they really only care about looking good on paper.

Overtime is not “offered”, it comes a number of ways. Its forced, its required, it happens because they ALWAYS overbook your jobs, and it happens because of the type of job you get, which rarely gives you enough time. Comcast scheduling system is severly broken, and they show thier commitment to fixing it by firing Techs who cannot magically survive it. Thats yet anotber reason why they are always hiring, like a revolving door. The training is a joke. Comcast allows the Supervisors to take control of you during training, which allows them to punish you based on rumors (because they are not there its a rumor); they will pull you out of class to make you work even if you arent ready; they are responsible to give you class materials, which is totally dumb (some unscrupulous ones will give your new equipment to thier existing crew and you end up with trash or nothing). The training is 2 months too short and then they put you in the field and pretend your an expert. Also, they try to use you to train the old workers because they run the Techs like slaves so they dont get ongoing training. Specifically the working hours, long and inconsiderate. Even Techs with 7-8 yeats of service routinely go 3-4 hours overtime at least once a week.
How to Get a Discount from Comcast

If you are currently a Comcast customer, or are considering becoming a Comcast customer, there are numerous ways you can receive a discount on your services or total bill amount. If you are an existing Comcast customer, you may have more leverage in regards to negotiating discounts. Continue reading this guide to learn about the ways you can receive a discount on your Comcast services.
Method 1 of 3:
Researching Discounts for New Customers
- Often, it is cheaper to have services packaged in “bundles.” If you want more than one of the services listed above, there are a number of packages available. Keep in mind, though, that nearly all of the available packages include internet and cable together; there may not be special offers advertised for just home telephone and cable. [1] X Research source
- Examine these deals closely. Some have noted that those that offer some of the best monthly rates also require the longest contracts. If you do not want to be tied down that long, or want to be able to pit competitors against each other again in the near future, a 24 month contract may not be the best plan. [2] X Research source
Research the rates of the services offered by Comcast’s competitors. This will allow you to determine the best deals being offered for these services, which you will mention to Comcast when you consult them regarding the discount.
- If the sales representative does not offer you any noteworthy discount, mention the discount offered to you by competitors. In most cases, Comcast will match the discount to acquire you as a customer.
- Beware of the fine print. Comcast will often provide offers that match or exceed those of their competitors for only a brief window at the beginning of the contract. If you are paying a “promotional rate” for the first six months, but must sign a two year contract at a higher rate, you may still be paying more to sign with Comcast. They also unilaterally change some rates without warning, so short contracts may always be the best option. [3] X Research source

Method 2 of 3:
Existing Comcast Customers
- If Comcast is not initially willing to provide you with a discount, mention the amount of time you have had Comcast as your provider. If you have been with Comcast for over 1 year, Comcast may view you as a loyal customer and provide you with the discount.
- If you have always paid your Comcast bills on time, mention this factor to Comcast; as this may also demonstrate your loyalty to their company.
- This is another important moment in which you can bring up the cost or advantages of a competing company’s plans. Explain to what extent the convenience of using the other company’s services makes their offer more attractive. Try to make this point early in the conversation, as this will force them to begin providing counter offers from the very beginning.
- Like most service providers, Comcast has a customer retention department that deals specifically with customers who threaten to cut their service or switch to a competitor. These agents are trained to be somewhat difficult to work with, but they also have the right to provide certain offers that are not widely available otherwise. [5] X Research source If you can be extremely patient with them, you can get a deal.

Method 3 of 3:
Alternate Discount Methods
- Some regions or states may partner with Comcast to provide you with a discount if you meet certain eligibility criteria.
- Perform an Internet search using keywords such as “Comcast coupon codes” to locate websites with valid coupon codes. You can also visit the “Retail Me Not” website featured in the Sources section of this article to review a list of Comcast coupon codes that provide various discounts.
- Beware some of these “coupon” sites. Many are really just advertisements for companies, and the “special” offers are no different than those available directly through the company.
Search for seasonal discounts. In particular, look for things such as back-to-school deals, holiday promotions, and anything tied to an event throughout the year. August is moving season for many people, and so that is another great time to look for deals that Comcast is running for the higher than average number of people moving during that time. They have typically run summer deals on one portion of the company website.

Community Q&A
I got nowhere with the retention department after telling Comcast I cannot afford year two, which they told me would be same price as year one. I never signed a contract and Comcast will not send me one. What can I do?
Community Answer
If you did not sign a contract, they cannot hold you to it. They must cancel your service. You can request they pull the recording of your conversation to verify the details. I have done this before and they don’t like it, but they do it.

What speed do I need if I only want to stream TV?
Community Answer
A 15 megabit per second (mbps) download speed should be sufficient. Beware that Comcast often does not give you the speed they say they will. Instead, they say “up to 15 mbps”, meaning that you may or may not actually get 15 mbps.

One of the easiest ways to get a discount from Comcast is to mention discounts offered by competitors! Start by researching the service rates offered by other companies in your area. Once you know how your bill compares, contact Comcast and mention the competitor discounts to the representative. If Comcast is not willing to give you a discount that matches competitor rates, tell the representative that you’re considering canceling your service. You may get a discount because Comcast wants to keep your business! If you are a senior citizen or military personnel, you can also ask the representative if Comcast offers discounts for your special circumstances.
